Mississippi Aquarium's Aviary is one of the unique parts of our campus. Take a leisurely stroll through our immersive aviary and get up close with birds from all around the globe. Stop by the brook to watch some of our ducks swim or look for one of our Black spotted barbets in the enclosed aviary.

*Important Notice*

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been found in Mississippi. This virus, commonly known as “bird flu,” affects wild birds and can be transmitted to any bird.

Mississippi Aquarium's vet team is closely monitoring the situation and is implementing safety precautions to protect the birds that call Mississippi Aquarium home.

As a precautionary measure, visitors to Mississippi Aquarium are asked NOT to enter the Aviary if they meet any of the following criteria:

• Have backyard chickens, other poultry, or waterfowl
• Have recently been bird hunting and are wearing the same shoes/clothes to the Aquarium
• Are currently sick
• Have been in contact with shorebirds, waterfowl, or chickens in any setting

Support Aviary Enrichment

Mississippi Aquarium's animal enrichment program provides physically and mentally stimulating toys, activities, and environments for all of our animals. Enrichment allows our animals to demonstrate species-specific behavior found in their natural environments.

These items allow our animals to exercise control of their surroundings and enhance their well-being. Just like proper nutrition and veterinary care, animal enrichment is essential to animal welfare.
